Create A Wish List!

Posted by mallton on February 28th, 2009

When you find yourself in the middle of the winter doldrums, sometimes it’s fun to sit down with your favorite beverage, grab a notebook and pen, and create your ultimate wish list. This is the time to give the “dreamer” in you free reign. Don’t hold back. Don’t judge your wishes. Don’t limit yourself by what you believe is possible. Remember a time when you were little, and you felt the world was your oyster. Life seemed filled with endless possibilities, and nothing seemed impossible. Your dreams were enormous, and your belief in your ability to achieve them was rock solid. Bring this dreamer along with you as you create your list, and have fun! Some suggestions to get your imagination working might include:

Do You Believe You Can Change, Or Not?

Posted by mallton on February 27th, 2009

Personal growth and development is an ongoing process and many people seeking to make changes in their lives know that any success comes from changing their thought. But also many find this to be not as straight forward as they thought. With the movie, “The Secret” the Law of Attraction has been brought out and embraced by many, but the movie actually is just a basic introduction on the Law of Attraction not a full blown ‘how to’ course. Unfortunately many are left thinking that all they need to do is think their way into any success or new life experience. Managing your thinking is a large part of how you make changes but not all there is to it. It does not help that some teachers just do focus on the changing of your thought without delving any deeper. This basic part of The Law of Attraction deals with only your conscious thought, but does not get into the power your unconscious thought holds over your everyday thinking, feeling and behavior. One of the major factors that come into play when you are trying to change your thinking is with your unconscious thinking, and most importantly your beliefs.

Is Patience No Longer A Virtue?

From the person who rides your rear bumper in traffic, honking their horn, or other people who loudly (and rudely) complain because the line that they are standing in is moving too slowly for them, there are some pretty impatient people in the world. And I am sure that you encounter your “un-fair” share of them every day.

In order to be a success in any endeavor you undertake you need to integrate the “art” of patience into your life. If you do not know or understand what patience is here is one definition: “The quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, display of emotion, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.” Another definition says patience is “an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.”

Have we evolved into beings that have become so selfish and self absorbed that we have forgotten about our own self control? The ability to keep in check your mental, emotional and physical being requires self-control. The inability to do so is a sign that you are “out of control.” When you easily lose your self control, you will most certainly fire off outbursts of anger, temper and blame on others. Author Richard Rybolt said on the subject of patience, “There will be a time when loud-mouthed, incompetent people seem to be getting the best of you. When that happens, you only have to be patient and wait for them to self destruct.

Personal Development: Tips For Living Life With Passion!

Posted by mallton on February 25th, 2009

We all want to lead full, happy lives…so why is it that so few of us do?

If it’s time you took a good look at your own life and gave it an overhaul, don’t wait another minute. Whether we like to admit it or not, the clock is ticking for each of us. Make each moment count by actually putting into place the practices which will bring you joy and rekindle the passion in your life.

This has nothing to do with anyone else - it’s all about YOU! Following are some tips to help you make the most of each day and ensure you are living your life to the fullest. While they may not sound positive and easy, this is all about being effective. These few key areas are where you can put new practices into place and give yourself the gift of a happier, more satisfying life.

GOALS: The trick here is to make them YOURS. Not what your Mom wants, nor what your guidance counselor told you was right for you…but what YOU want. Have you even thought about this lately? Many people have not thought about what they truly want in years. This is partially due to the vague notion that many carry around that says ’some day I’ll have more time to figure it out and then I’ll get what I want’.

This is NOT how it works…some day is NOW. Tomorrow will never come, and our time here is limited. You can either choose for this to be a depressing thought and turn away from it, or face it straight on and FREE YOURSELF. Today is all we have - live it up! Dream with passion! PLAN to do things you love and which are fun…there is no time like the present!

PRIORITIES: In these busy times, it is time we realize that we cannot do it all. We can create everything we want, but the fact remains that we only have 24 hours in a day, and there will simply be things that slip through the cracks. Therefore, the more we hone our focus and decide what our priorities are, the better we can live each day from that focus, and accomplish more of the things that matter to us as individuals.

This is not goal-setting. Goals ARISE from this work, and allow you to accomplish those things that you wish to. Rather, this allows us to live each day with a strong sense of purpose, aliveness and joy.

The trick to living this way is two-fold: the first is to invest the time to look at your life overall and decide what you want it to be about. A good way to think about this is to look at the end of your life. Ask yourself what you will regret most if you don’t change it? What do you want said about you when you’re gone? What kind of a legacy would you like to leave? What will you wish you had done?

The second part ties your priorities and your goals together. The best two tips in this area I have heard in years are extremely simple: 1) Make a list every night of the five things you must accomplish tomorrow, and then DO THEM tomorrow, in the order of those you want to do least first. 2) Ask yourself each day: What can I do today that I’ll be glad I did tomorrow? This one step is amazingly powerful, as you will see after a few days.
